Computing Career Corps (CCC) Program Overview
TECH CORPS’ Computing Career Corps (CCC) is designed to strengthen students’ technology (computing) skills while at the same time exploring technology career pathways. The program introduces students to a variety of occupations in the field of technology including computer programming, software engineering, robotics and app development. Students will gain a solid understanding of the inner workings of technology and also use their newly acquired skills in the authentic task of creating solutions to everyday problems.

Instructors are responsible for leading and supervising the students as they complete the fifteen-week program. Instructors serve at their assigned program site on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays or a combination of days (based on their availability, program need) from 4:00pm-7:00pm. The Computing Career Corps experience will tentatively run from the week of January 22, 2018 – the week of May 14, 2018

Position:     Instructor, Part-Time, Temporary
Position Summary:     Temporary Assignment: (Paid) Training: Tentatively January 17-18, 2018 (5-9PM)
Hours/Wage:     Program: Week of January 22 – Week of May 14 (2 weeks off for Spring Break) $20.00/hour: 4-16 hours/week (3/hours a night + 1/hour/night for additional responsibilities including administrative tasks and team meetings)
Locations:     Multiple sites across Franklin County

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming (C++, C#, Java, Python)
  • Web Design & Development (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3) and Content Management Systems
  • Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
  • Robotics and Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Must have experience with industry standard and open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation, web authoring and programming environments.
  • 3D Printing platforms (TinkerCAD, SketchUp, Makerbot, Polar 3D)
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred but not required.
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching or teaching groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban teenagers is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Computing Career Corps Instructor is primarily responsible for assisting students with the successful completion of the Computing Career Corps program. The Computing Career Corps Instructor is also responsible for administrative oversight, supervising and managing all aspects of the Computing Career Corps program experience at their assigned location. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide supervision and support to Computing Career Corps students using the Computing Career Corps program materials.
  • Support and mentor students as they interact with their peers and program staff and volunteers.
  • Support student project teams with the successful completion of their tasks including monitoring student work performance and recommending modifications to projects as needed.
  • Conduct any and all activities necessary to retain 90% of all assigned students.
  • Develop and submit 100% of documentation and progress forms for 100% of assigned students in accordance with directed timeline requirements.
  • Prepare and submit 100% of student-related forms (weekly and/or monthly student evaluations; informal assessments and other required student-related documents) for 100% of assigned students in accordance with directed timeline requirements.
  • Attend every workday session promptly and prepared for coaching sessions/instruction.
  • Coordinate and implement work in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Set-up and clean-up program site at the beginning and at the end of each workday.
  • Confirm that all materials are prepared for coaching sessions.
  • Enforce rules and regulations and apply appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of program participants and maintain a clean, professional looking environment.
  • Return materials supplied by TECH CORPS.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
