JOB POSTING: Computing Career Corps Instructor

Position Summary
Part-time/Temporary position responsible for coordinating and implementing all day-to-day aspects of the program. Computing Career Corps (CCC) introduces students to a variety of in-demand occupations in the field of technology including computer programming, software engineering, robotics, 3D printing and app development. Students gain a solid understanding of the inner workings of technology and use their newly acquired skills and creativity to develop solutions and products. Each cohort has two (2) instructors and one (1) site coordinator with up to 25 students.

Position:     Computing Career Corps Instructor
Date:     Computing Career Corps will be implemented from January 28 – May 24, 2019.
Time:     Computing Career Corps will run from 4:00pm-7:00pm, Monday-Thursday one day per week. Instructors are able to work multiple program days, if desired.
Wage:     $20.00/hour: 4-16 hours/week (3 hours a night + 1 hour/night for additional responsibilities including administrative tasks and team meetings)

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Attend training session prior to program start date
  • Become knowledgeable of program tools (lessons/activities, software/hardware) prior to program sessions
  • Be able to explain complex ideas to students so they can relate and understand
  • Build a safe classroom environment conducive to collaborative and hands-on learning
  • Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
  • Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
  • Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
  • Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
     

Qualifications:

  • Passion (for the mission of the organization), Creativity and Initiative
  • Basic knowledge and/or experience leading, mentoring or teaching groups
  • Effective communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban students is a plus
  • Computer Science or Engineering major/program/degree preferred but not required

 

Content Knowledge/Experience:

  • Programming/coding
  • Web Design & Development (e.g. JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and Content Management Systems
  • Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
  • Robotics and Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • Open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation, web authoring and programming environments
  • 3D Printing platforms (e.g. TinkerCAD, SketchUp)
     

Direct Report: Computing Career Corps Instructors report to the Regional Manager.
Location: Computing Career Corps is offered in partnership with K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations in Central Ohio.
