Student TECH CORPS Program Overview
Student TECH CORPS (Summer) is an 8 week “summer work experience” for in­school students ages 14­18 years old designed to deliver tech support training and certification to students and then harnesses their knowledge to power a Student-Run Help Desk to provide valuable technical support in their school buildings or communities. Students work 25 hours each week and earn up to $10.00 per hour. Eligible students apply to participate in the program and are assigned to one of the Student TECH CORPS worksites. Each cohort (up to 25 student-employees) is supported by two Worksite Supervisors-Instructors and a Site Coordinator.

Position:     Instructor, Part-Time, Temporary
Wage:     $20 per hour
Dates/Time:     Student TECH CORPS will run from June 12 – August 4, 2017. The program typically runs daily, half-day. Staff is compensated for training, instruction, planning time and team meetings. The staff training will take place June 5-9 at the TECH CORPS office.
Locations:     Student TECH CORPS will be implemented in partnership with K-12 school districts and nonprofit partners in Central Ohio.


  • Experience with computer hardware repair, operating systems, software applications, networking, computer peripherals, and tech support.
  • CompTIA certifications (i.e. IT Fundamentals, A+, etc) preferred but not required.
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching, or teaching groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban teenagers a plus.

The Student TECH CORPS Summer Instructor is primarily responsible for assisting students with the successful completion of the Student TECH CORPS summer work experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide supervision and support to Student TECH CORPS students using the Student TECH CORPS program materials.
  • Support and mentor students as they interact with peers and industry professionals.
  • Support student project teams with the successful completion of hands-on lab activities.
  • Conduct any and all activities necessary to retain 90% of all assigned students.
  • Immediately notify TECH CORPS Supervisor of any and all support services that students may need. Document referrals made.
  • Arrive to every workday session promptly and prepared for sessions/instruction.
  • Coordinate and implement work in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Set-up and clean-up worksite at the beginning and at the end of each workday and confirm that all materials are prepared for sessions.
  • Enforce rules and regulations and apply appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of program participants and maintain a clean, professional looking environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
