Student WEB CORPS Program Overview
Student WEB CORPS is a 6-8 week “summer work experience” for in­school students, ages 14-17 years old, designed to strengthen students’ web development, project management and professionalism skills and to apply those skills in the authentic task of building a website for a small business, organization or cause. Students work 25/hours each week and earn $10.00 per hour (amount varies based on location and program funder). Eligible students apply to participate in the program and are assigned to one of the Student WEB CORPS worksites. Each cohort (up to 25 student-employees) is supported by two Worksite Supervisors/Instructors and a Site Coordinator.

Position:     Instructor, Part-Time, Temporary
Wage:     $20-$25 per hour (amount varies based on location and program funder)
Dates/Time:     6-8 weeks during the summer of 2018. Tentatively June 11 - August 3, 2018. Student WEB CORPS runs daily, half-day. Staff is compensated for instruction, planning time and team meetings.
Locations:     Student WEB CORPS will be implemented in partnership with colleges/universities, K-12 school districts and nonprofit partners in Central and Northeast Ohio.


  • Web development, web administration and web design skills including but not limited to HTML, CSS, PHP, Drupal, CMS (Wordpress and Joomla), SEO, MySQL, video and graphics software suites.
  • Must have experience using different hosting panels (cPanel).
  • Must have experience with industry standard and open source image, audio and video manipulation software.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft, Lotus, Corel, and other industry applications.
  • Education, Communications or Computer Science degree preferred but not required.
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching, or teaching groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban teenagers a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES The Student WEB CORPS Instructor is primarily responsible for assisting students with the successful completion of the Student WEB CORPS summer work experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide supervision and support to Student WEB CORPS students using the Student WEB CORPS web development materials.
  • Support and mentor students as they interact with clients and peers.
  • Support student project teams with the successful completion of the client website including monitoring student work performance and recommending modifications web site designs as needed.
  • Conduct any and all activities necessary to retain 90% of all assigned students.
  • Immediately notify TECH CORPS Supervisor of any and all support services that students may need. Document referrals made.
  • Meet every workday session promptly and prepared for sessions/instruction.
  • Coordinate and implement work in an orderly and professional manner.
  • Set-up and clean-up worksite at the beginning and at the end of each workday and confirm that all materials are prepared for sessions.
  • Enforce rules and regulations and apply appropriate disciplinary measures as needed.
  • Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of program participants and maintain a clean, professional looking environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
