Position Summary

Part-time/Temporary position responsible for providing support and facilitating the content delivery portion of the program. TECHCORPShack is a 1.5-day event that gives students the opportunity to learn about computer science in a fun and engaging environment that promotes inclusivity and diversity. Over the course of the experience, students will learn how to utilize MIT App Inventor to explore the world of mobile app development and create an app that tackles a real-world need or problem. This year's hackathon will focus on the opioid crisis. The 2018 TECHCORPShack sponsored by AT&T Ohio will engage 175 high school students in three of AT&T's markets: Columbus (100 students), Dayton (50 students) and Zanesville (25 students). There will be two instructors for each cohort o 25 students. Winning teams from the regional TECHCORPShack events will compete in a grand finale hackathon in Columbus in December.

Position:     TECHCORPShack Instructor
Dates:     Friday, November 16th AND Saturday, November 17th
Times:     November 16th 6:30-7:30PM; November 17th 9:00AM-4:00PM
Salary:     $500 for both days
Locations:     TECHCORPShack will be held at each of the following locations:
  • Franklin University, 201 S Grant Ave, Columbus, OH 43215
  • Zane State College, 1555 Newark Rd, Zanesville, OH 43701
  • Sinclair Community College, 444 W Third St, Dayton, OH 45402

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Attend training session prior to program start date
  • Familiarize and become an expert on program tools (software & hardware)
  • Review lessons/activities prior to program camp and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
  • Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
  • Create a safe classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
  • Record camp through photos and videos, which need to be uploaded to Dropbox
  • Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
  • Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
  • Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
  • Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
  • Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming (C++, C#, Java, Python, Object-oriented)
  • Must have experience with industry standard and open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation, web authoring and programming environments.
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred but not required
  • Passion (for the mission of the organization), Creativity and Initiative
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching, or teaching groups
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban students is a plus

Direct Report: TECHCORPShack Instructors report to the Regional Manager, Central Ohio.

Location: TECHCORPShack is offered via partnerships with colleges/universities, K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations in Central Ohio and surrounding areas.
