Techie Camp Program Overview
Techie Camp is a full day, week-long technology experience designed specifically for elementary and middle school students. The goal of Techie Camp is to engage students in activities that can stimulate a deeper interest in technology; as well as provide opportunities for them to express their imaginations. Each camp has two (2) instructors and up to 20 students.

Position:     Instructor, Part-Time, Temporary
Wage:     $20-$25 per hour (amount varies based on location and program funder)
Dates/Time:     Techie Camps are offered between June 5, 2017 and August 18, 2017. Techie Camps run Monday – Friday typically from 9:00am to 4:00pm (Instructors arrive at 8:00am and stay no later than 5:00pm)
Locations:     Techie Camp is offered via partnerships with colleges/universities, K-12 schools and nonprofit organizations in Central and Northeast Ohio as well as Georgia, New Jersey and Rhode Island.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming (C++, C#, Java, Python)
  • Web Design & Development (JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3) and Content Management Systems
  • Graphic Arts and 2D or 3D Video Game Design
  • Robotics and Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical)
  • 3D Printing (TinkerCad, MakerBot)
  • Must have experience with industry standard and open source software, including image, audio, video manipulation, web authoring and programming environments.
  • Computer Science or Engineering degree preferred but not required.
  • Possess basic knowledge and/or have experience leading, coaching or teaching groups.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations and/or urban teenagers is a plus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The Techie Camp Instructor will be responsible for coordinating and implementing all day-to-day aspects of the camp, including but not limited to:

  • Attend training session prior to camp start date
  • Familiarize and become an expert on Techie Camp tools (software & hardware)
  • Review lessons/activities prior to camp and have full understanding of the curriculum in relation to students
  • Have the ability to explain complex ideas to students in a language they can relate to and understand
  • Create a safe classroom environment conducive to cooperative and hands-on learning
  • Record camp through photos and videos, which need to be uploaded to Dropbox
  • Assist students with the successful completion of lessons/activities and evaluation
  • Provide feedback on the students’ experience with the overall program
  • Provide TECH CORPS staff with all program and evaluation data as requested
  • Perform other duties as needed for the successful implementation of the program
