Camp IT

Camp IT 2011 is a program for middle and high school students.  Camp IT 2011 is designed to strengthen students’ information technology (IT) skills while at the same time exploring IT career and educational pathways. The goal of the program is to motivate students to explore their own interests and potential in the field of technology while providing them the opportunity to gain employment experience.

Camp IT 2011 is a uniquely simulated employment opportunity for high schoolers (16-18) with disabilities.  Participants are exposed to the labor market that is consistently in shortage of qualified workers in an economy where jobs are hard to find. The campers will learn how to be more independent, more logical, more strategic and most of all, how to make the best of themselves. In that process, they will learn the basics of using social networks effectively, high growth careers, searching efficiently, maintaining your computer, computer networks, editing media, web development, game development, and app development.

Camp IT Curriculum Overview:

  1. The Digital Exchange: Getting to know each other digitally. (Facebook, Mobile, Twitter.) Present your partner using the info from the digital presence. Get to know the Tech Corps social network & blogs.
  2. High Growth Careers: Why are you here? Are you sure? Research about high growth careers and why you should be here/why you could be here.
  3. Smart Searching: Learning to use search engines effectively. Understand how they work and how to make the most of it.
  4. Tech Supporting Yourself: Learn how to maintain your computer. Learn to be technically independent and not get ripped off.
  5. Networks & Power: Learn how the computer networks work and learn how to set up a home network. Apply the understanding to social networks, including positives and negatives impacts of the digital life.
  6. Manipulating Media: Learn how to edit music, video and images.

  10. Mobile apps: Make you very first Android app using your game development experience.
  11. Trip Planning: So, where are you going (in life)? Do you know how to get there? What would you need to get there? Share your trip plan with everyone.

TECH CORPS Logo OnlyTech Corps was founded in 1995 by Gary Beach , Publisher Emeritus of CIO Magazine.  Gary envisioned an organization which would challenge American volunteers to help K-12 schools build a technology infrastructure -- much like the Peace Corps challenges men and women to help developing countries build their infrastructures.  Building from a state pilot in Massachusetts, Tech Corps developed and deployed technology programs and tech-savvy volunteers to assist K-12 schools and youth-serving organizations across the country.  Since 1995, more than 10,000 Tech Corps volunteers have Read More
