TECHie Club Visits AEP Headquarters

Techie Club students from Clinton Elementary School in Columbus, Ohio spent the morning learning about the technology behind one of the nation's largest generators of electricity.  American Electric Power (AEP) employees took the students on a behind the scenes tour of American Electric Power’s headquarters.  This experience allowed the students to make connections between the technology they use in Techie Club and the real-world application of such technologies.
Carl English, Vice Chairman of American Electric Power, invited the students to join him and other AEP leadership for a lunch of pizza and cottage cheese in the executive dining room.  The kids loved the view of Columbus from the 30th floor and the pizza – the cottage cheese on the other hand was only enjoyed by a select few!  During lunch, the students learned about the rich history of AEP from Lisa Barton, Senior Vice President of Transmission Strategy and Business Development. Barbara Radous, Senior Vice President of Shared Services praised the students for their commitment to learning and said that she looked forward to receiving their resumes in another 10 years.
Tech Corps would like to thank our two awesome AEP volunteers (Ms. Viji and Mr. Mark) and all of our friends at AEP for a great day and for their ongoing support of Techie Club!
Techie Club was developed in 2008 with support from the American Electric Power Foundation.  This year, nearly 300 3rd- 5th grade students are participating in Techie Clubs in Columbus, Cincinnati, Batavia, and Houston, TX!

TECH CORPS Logo OnlyTech Corps was founded in 1995 by Gary Beach , Publisher Emeritus of CIO Magazine.  Gary envisioned an organization which would challenge American volunteers to help K-12 schools build a technology infrastructure -- much like the Peace Corps challenges men and women to help developing countries build their infrastructures.  Building from a state pilot in Massachusetts, Tech Corps developed and deployed technology programs and tech-savvy volunteers to assist K-12 schools and youth-serving organizations across the country.  Since 1995, more than 10,000 Tech Corps volunteers have Read More
